Centre Point takes inner-city living to a super-prime level

When Centre Point was granted grade II listed status in 1995, English Heritage called it “one of the most distinctive high-rise compositions of the 1960s”.

The brutalist masterpiece was commissioned by Harry Hyams, the property tycoon who — with Richard Seifert and Partners, the architect — shaped the skyline of postwar London. Standing at the eastern end of Oxford Street, the 117m-high tower was, for a time, the tallest building in the city; today it is the tallest luxury residential building in the West End.
