Centre Point: Developers plan upmarket homes at landmark site

London landmark Centre Point, which stood vacant for a decade, is set to become the latest home for the world’s super-wealthy after property group Almacantar unveiled plans to build apartments worth up to £50m at the site.

The distinctive 385ft tall building in Oxford Street was one of the capital’s first skyscrapers when it was completed in 1966 but has a chequered history.

Now Almacantar is helping meet soaring demand for super-prime city centre homes by building 82 apartments in the 33-storey tower, comprising of 16 one-bedroom, 37 two-bedroom, 26 three-bedroom, two four-bedroom and one five-bedroom flats.

Prices have not been released for the homes but The Telegraph understands that Almacantar will be looking to sell the five-bedroom apartment for up to £50m. One-bedroom apartments nearby are currently on sale for more than £1m,
